This video explains how to plan an informative/explanatory piece of writing where the information is sequenced and should follow her Brainstorming to Writing Lessons Overview video. This stage 7 plan can be used to plan writing at an advanced paragraph level in grades 2-3 or 4-6 or to plan a three-paragraph essay with a hook and snappy ending for more advanced writers. Nancy Fetzer separates informative/explanatory writing into three types: sequence (stage 7), categories (stage 7), and descriptive (stage 8). She explains that teachers will go back and forth throughout stages 7 and 8 when teaching informative/explanatory writing before teaching more complex informative/explanatory writing in stages 9-11.
