Teacher Quality Standards

  • QS I: Teachers demonstrate mastery of and pedagogical expertise in the content they teach.

This resource features three publications that together provide teachers with a purposeful and concrete look at a critical component to student success - thoughtful lesson planning. Included in this resource are the following:

  1. Lesson Plans and Unit Plans: The Basis for Instruction - This chapter from the book The New Teacher's Companion describes the foundational elements of both lesson and unit planning. 
  2. Eight Questions for Better Lessons - This ASCD article prompts teachers to go beyond the basics of lesson planning and reflect on their planning process in an effort to refine even the best lesson plan. 
  3. 10 Great Lesson Planning Templates and Resources - this short blog from the Teaching Channel offers up 10 easy to use and high-quality lesson plan templates.
