This module provides an introduction to mentoring in the NW BOCES region and is required as part of committing to mentoring a teacher new to the profession. Begin by watching the introduction video, review the appropriate handbook for the type of candidate being mentored, as well as the NW BOCES Mentor Handbook, and then read The Good Mentor and New Teacher Development for Every Inning. The final step in this module is to respond to the reflection questions - click "Response/Reflection" in light green above to view and respond. 

This Module's Learning Outcomes:

  • Recognize the importance of mentoring.
  • Understand what is expected as a mentor of a beginning teacher. 
  • Become familiar with the phases new teachers go through their first year.
  • Consider the qualities of effective mentors.
