  • QS I: Teachers demonstrate mastery of and pedagogical expertise in the content they teach.
    • Element A: Teachers provide instruction that is aligned with the Colorado Academic Standards and their district’s organized plan of instruction.

Standards-Based Instructional Design

Resources

From the book's site on ASCD, scroll down and click on the link entitled "Standards-Based Curriculum and Assessment Design" to read this resource. This book chapter outlines a process for developing standards-based instructional units to help teachers develop curriculum that aligns with state or school standards.

This CDE website houses instructional unit plans specific to grade level and content.

This CDE webpage houses curriculum overview samples.  These unit samples, written by Colorado educators, help translate the Colorado State Standards into curriculum.

This very brief video helps to differentiate between an “activity” and truly meaningful learning.

In this article, learn about some ways that a teacher might teach the standards authentically.
