Identification of Technology Needs, Strengths and Next Steps

Essential Question: How can technology seamlessly and equitably enhance best practices in classroom instruction?

This activity will be an opportunity to identify your technology needs and strengths by taking an inventory of how you use technology to further student learning, and to consider how to ensure equitable access to technology for all your students. The objective of the inventory is to help you reflect on the ways you’ve used technology in your classroom in the past, what part it played in student learning and how it impacted student outcomes. As you compile this information, it will help you identify a focus for your participation in this TLC, and lead you to critically examine technology’s place in student learning.

Creating and Implementing a Plan for Technology Infused Learning Opportunities

Essential Question: How can technology seamlessly and equitably enhance best practices in classroom instruction?

This six week activity is designed to help teachers develop and put into action a plan to maximize available technology, addressing the previously identified aspect of instruction that might be enhanced through technology.  Selecting the tools your students will use to meet specific learning objectives will play a big part of the first weeks of this activity. As you do this, keep in mind that though the tools students use to tackle these learning objectives are important, the focus should be on the learning and not the tools. The hope is that this six week activity will provide you plenty of time to engage in a continuous improvement cycle allowing for the chance to “plan, do, check, and act” multiple times.

Essential Question: How can technology seamlessly and equitably enhance best practices in classroom instruction?

How can teachers help students maximize the promise of technology, offering them the chance to cultivate their curiosity, outwit obstacles, play purposefully, and have voice and choice in their learning? This activity is designed to support teachers as they guide their students in leveraging technology in a way that is so big, so inventive, it empowers them to to take ownership in their learning. The ISTE Standards for Students have a specific domain identifying the characteristics of empowered learners, but the idea of offering students the chance to express themselves, be creative, and think deeply is threaded throughout the framework. The upper levels of the Technology Integration Matrix for every characteristic has the expectation that students have a choice in how they use technology to meet specific purposes, driving them to transform their thinking. How can we push ourselves, and our students to go further?
